On Message Media offers a unique and dynamic workshop experience. Led by Award Winning Television Reporter Stuart McNish and John Stufflebeem, Vice-Admiral US Navy (Retired) the voice of the US Military during Operation Enduring Freedom.

On Message Media offers a range of training services. We tailor our program to the skill level of the participant. Stu’s Message Calibration System is adaptive in nature and speaks to the skill level of the trainee. Building on a journalistic tradition of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comforted Stu seamlessly moves from one level of instruction to the next based on the trainee.

Employing the myriad videos that make up On Message, Stu takes you inside the mind and the world of journalists, public relations professionals, advertising executives and linguists to show you how to develop messaging that ensures you win in the court of public opinion. Small Group Workshops

Stuart McNish and John Stufflebeem host intensive workshops to help you develop your communication skills and prepare you to engage the media. A typical workshop would include:
  1. Assess skill level of participants –we work directly with you, reviewing past media encounters, strategies and knowledge to establish a base. In the process developing the language and skill set that prepares you to be confident and ON Message.

  2. How the Media works – Examine the media; how it works, its priorities and its deadlines. Changing paradigms in an Internet world creating differences and similarities in all media. Understanding  their worldview means you position your message so that it will be heard.

  3. Message Calibration System
    1. Negotiation – an interview is a business transaction. Understanding the terms of engagement levels the playing field. 
    2. News Analytics – Learn how different news outlets and reporters cover different topics – know their bias going in.
    3. Framing – Learn how to choose the words that evoke the emotional response you want from the reporter. Framing is the Holy Grail of media communication.
    4. Key Messaging –  Craft the statement that survives the Journalism process and evokes the reaction you want from the reporter and their audience.

  7. On-Camera interviews – Stu and John run you through a series of real “On camera “ interviews. Then they show you the results.  Stu is an exceptional interviewer who gets to the heart of the matter. Both Stu and John review your performance and provide you with the feedback that only seasoned professionals can offer in a safe environment.  Watch Stu edit your interview down to the one clip that will get used and learn from both Stu and John why that clip was the one that would get used.

  8. Review – Stu and John will review all the key elements of the day and give you the resources you need to be On Message.
